Five people were injured at around 10:25 yesterday morning, April 14, when a car entered the motorway in the wrong direction at the Ferreiras Albufeira junction, in the Albufeira/Faro direction.
The accident ended up involving three vehicles, but luckily all involved only suffered minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment.
The five injured were four Portuguese occupants of one of the vehicles, an 80 year old man and three women aged 74, 48 and 13, and the driver of the other car involved, a German woman, aged 90.
A source highlighted that the German lady's vehicle was travelling in the wrong direction, which was later confirmed on site by the firefighters.
Traffic in the area was of course restricted, which led to the formation of large traffic queues while a team of five vehicles and 12 personnel from the Albufeira Fire Department, the GNR and the A22 concessionaire assisted those involved, removing the vehicles and cleaning the road.
