A mega-operation by the GNR has led to them dismantling a criminal network with activity in Faro, seizing machinery, drugs, weapons and vehicles.
Yesterday, police announces that two men and a woman, aged between 28 and 35, were arrested on Tuesday in Braga on suspicion of stealing agricultural machinery and drug trafficking. Faro is among the districts targeted, where GNR seized machinery valued at €100,000 and thousands of doses of various drugs.
In a statement, the National Republican Guard (GNR) said that the arrests resulted from a year long investigation, which began after the theft of two industrial machines from Braga and Vila do Conde, valued at more than €150,000.
“After the machines were recovered and returned to their rightful owners, the investigation continued, and the theft of another five industrial machines was verified in the districts of Braga, Porto, Leiria, Santarém and Faro, valued at more than €100,000”, said the GNR, adding that these were also recovered and returned to their owners.
During the investigation, the GNR also found that the suspects had stolen three other vehicles, namely two light goods vehicles and one passenger vehicle, valued at around €20,000, as well as trafficking drugs.
As part of the operation, in which 11 search warrants were carried out at homes and in vehicles, warehouses and companies in the districts of Braga, Leiria and Santarém, the GNR seized 18,000 doses of cocaine, 2400 doses of hashish, 252 doses of marijuana, 4700 doses of ketamine, 4000 doses of MDMA and 2200 doses of ecstasy.
€3700 euros in cash, three light vehicles, a crane, a pistol, various computer equipment and other instruments related to the packaging, preparation and packing of drugs were also seized.
The police operation was reinforced by military personnel from the Territorial Commands of Porto, Leiria and Santarém, as well as the GNR Intervention Unit.
