A 22 year old man was arrested in the emergency department of Portimão hospital on Friday, after suspicions that he was carrying drugs and pills inside him.
Judicial Police say the detainee had travelled to Portugal by plane, entering via Faro's Gago Coutinho international airport, not specifying the man's nationality.
The arrest was the result of a communication from the hospital to the police, reporting suspicions that the man in question had a narcotic substance inside his body. Having been at risk of death, the man underwent medical treatment, and expelled a package containing Oxycodone and Alprazolam tablets and 1.7 grams of Cocaine.
According to the PJ, the drugs were to presumably be for sale in the Algarve, having been 'introduced' into the man's body in the country of origin.
After being discharged from hospital, the detainee was subjected to an initial judicial interrogation as a defendant, and was given the coercive measure of an identity and residence order.
