In the face of the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Immediate Reaction Force (FRI) of the Portuguese Armed Forces has been deployed.
The swift and effective repatriation operation of around 120 national Portuguese citizens was requested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of National Defense, involving the FRI Command and Staff, in the planning and conducting the entire operation and a mobilized C-130 H aircraft from the 501 Squadron - "Bisons" and ready to operate in less than 24 hours after the activation of the force.
A set of Navy means was also maintained, at a high state of readiness.
This operation, requiring permanent interministerial coordination, demonstrates the capability of strategic projection and readiness that characterizes the FRI, reaffirming the commitment of the Portuguese Armed Forces in defending national interests and protecting Portuguese citizens anywhere in the world.
FRI, the operational unit of the Staff-General of the Armed Forces, is permanently prepared to ensure a swift response in emergencies, humanitarian crises or natural disasters, within and outside the national territory.
