A female Public Security Police agent has been named defendant and subject of disciplinary proceedings for domestic violence against her husband last weekend, which led to them both requiring hospital treatment.
In a statement, the PSP Faro District Command said it became aware of the involvement of an officer from its staff in an incident of domestic violence last weekend, in the area under the jurisdiction of the Faro GNR.
A source from the GNR, who took charge of the incident, said that, in a “first analysis and according to the evidence collected”, the PSP agent is the aggressor and her husband is the victim, with the situation having “apparently” occurred at home.
"Everything indicates that yes, the woman is the aggressor, but exactly what happened is yet to be clarified. The investigation is ongoing and it's still premature to reach a conclusion."
According to the statement released by the PSP “both participants needed to be taken to Faro Hospital, to receive medical treatment”.
Following the incident, the Judicial Police (PJ) were called and took over the investigation, with the agent being named a defendant, without further information about the situation.
“Psychological support was also provided to the police and disciplinary proceedings were instituted,” said the PSP.
According to the GNR, the case was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which will now distribute the investigation.
