In the early hours of yesterday, a 50 year old man was arrested in Lagos, suspected of committing theft from several commercial establishments, through breaking and entering.
In a statement, the Public Security Police say that in the last two weeks, there have been several thefts from commercial establishments in Lagos, with identical modes of action, which "led to the reinforcement of police surveillance in areas with the highest concentration of shops".
Following a surveillance operation, officers from the Lagos Police Station's Criminal Investigation Brigade detected the presence of an individual acting suspiciously and began monitoring him more closely. Shortly after, the suspect used a paving stone to break the glass of a store's door, resulting in him being arrested still in possession of several stolen items.
In light of the investigations carried out in the meantime, the PSP says there is strong evidence that the individual is the perpetrator of at least two other thefts of similar characteristics, recently recorded in the city centre of Lagos.
