Algarve’s ‘Boa Esperança’ sizzles in Seville

boaesperancasevilleThe Algarve’s flagship has been the venue on which to impress our Spanish neighbours in a session of ‘showcooking’ with the regional tourist board hosting the first of a series of on-board events.

More than 100 people joined Algarve tourism representatives on board the replica caravel in Seville for a showcooking session organised by the Algarve tourism board. The show drew journalists, Seville’s great and good, and leaders of Spanish travel businesses.

With the caravel decked out to perfection, having sailed from the Algarve to an up-river jetty in Seville’s centre, the cooking action started with cataplanas for all by Chef Augusto Lima from the Tertulia restaurant in Faro.

Plenty of regional wines followed solely to publicise the Algarve’s new Wines Route.

This event was attended by the Consul of Portugal in Seville, Jorge Monteiro, anyone important from the Provincial Council of Seville and of course the president of the Algarve tourist board, Desidério Silva, who had the opportunity to promote the Algarve in interviews with Sur Radio, EsRádio, Cadena Ser and the Diário de Huelva.

The main message hammered home by the increasingly competent tourism boss was that "The balance of the initiative is clearly positive, since many were present from organisations, businesses and the Andalucían media. Remember that Andalucía has more than eight million inhabitants and about 39 million tourist nights per year, 20 million of whom are foreigners. That's what makes the venue an attractive one for this kind of event in June," sais Desidério Silva.

The showcooking event was but the first of many activities planned on board the caravel during its trip to Andalucía.

The vessel will stay in Seville for a few more days and then head across the bay of Cadiz to Malaga and Almería where Boa Esperança will be open to the public to impress the attractive nature of the Algarve as a nearby holiday destination.
