Two individuals have been identified following violent clashes between a group of young people and market traders at the São Francisco Fair in Tavira, during the night from Friday to Saturday. The incident, which involved “around 40 people,” left several injured, one of whom required medical assistance.
According to the PSP (Public Security Police), officers were “alerted to a disturbance between market traders and a group of young visitors at the fair and exhibition grounds.”
When police arrived at the scene, “the disorder had already spread to several areas, with around 40 people engaged in mutual aggression. Reinforcements were immediately called in, and the necessary police intervention was carried out to restore public order,” after which the group reportedly fled.
The PSP determined that the altercation began “after the group of youths allegedly caused damage to one of the fair’s amusement rides, leading to a dispute with the traders.”
In addition to the injuries — “one of which required medical attention from Tavira’s municipal firefighters”, the brawl also caused “some damage to furniture and equipment, which has yet to be fully assessed.”
“Despite the complexity of the situation, two suspects have already been identified, and further investigative steps are being taken to identify the others involved,” the PSP confirmed.
