A 50-year-old man has been arrested in Albufeira on suspicion of attempted murder following a violent stabbing that left another man seriously injured yesterday, Tuesday morning (October 7).
According to Portugal’s Judicial Police (PJ), the suspect allegedly attacked a 35-year-old man with a sharp object in a public car park near a beach in the parish of Olhos de Água. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital. Police said the outcome could have been fatal were it not for the swift intervention of bystanders and emergency services.
Investigators believe the suspect acted without provocation, reportedly assaulting the victim over what authorities described as “trivial motives.”
The arrest was carried out under a judicial warrant following an investigation by the PJ’s Southern Directorate, with support from GNR officers in Albufeira.
The suspect is due to appear before a magistrate in the coming hours for questioning and potential pre-trial detention. The case is being overseen by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Albufeira.
