A 33-year-old foreign tourist was arrested in Albufeira on Wednesday, 19 November, apprehended on suspicion of committing the crime of possessing child pornography, the Judiciary Police (PJ) announced today.
The arrest was carried out by the PJ’s Southern Directorate with the support of the Albufeira GNR, following “information received by the PJ”.
A team of inspectors was dispatched to the scene, where they conducted investigative steps that “confirmed the existence of various pornographic materials in the suspect’s possession involving children of pre-adolescent age,” the statement said.
The detainee, who was “in the country as a tourist”, was brought before the competent judicial authorities for an initial hearing and has been placed under an identity and residence order until proceedings begin.
