Pink cocaine and white hash, both “designer drugs” typically aimed at “a more affluent social group”, were among the substances seized by GNR earlier this week, Tuesday 18 November. The bust resulted in the arrest of six suspected drug-peddlers operating throughout Olhão and neighbouring municipalities.
The arrests were the culmination of an eight-month investigation, Captain António Ramos of the GNR told press.
“This was an organised group operating in Olhão and nearby towns, selling directly to consumers. The suspects had criminal records, and are associated with reports of violence involving firearms,” he said.
Alongside the drug-trafficking activity, the five men and one woman, aged between 18 and 36, were also in possession of “various firearms”. These included two shotguns, a replica firearm, a revolver, a homemade pistol, another pistol, two airguns, and an air rifle.
In terms of drugs, officers seized 445 doses of cocaine, 381 of hashish, two of cannabis herb, and 26.15 grams of cannabis buds.
A notable detail was the discovery of two less common substances: pink cocaine and white hash. Both, Captain Ramos explained, “undergo a different type of processing, with different purity levels and mixtures of synthetic substances, which drive up the price and target a more affluent social bracket”.
The GNR also seized a hand-grenade casing, an extendable baton, two balaclavas, an axe, a watch, four electric scooters, two LCD screens, a speaker, three gaming consoles, assorted clothing and perfumes, two safes, 17 mobile phones, and around €37,000 in cash.
Authorities will continue to investigate the group to determine whether others were involved. As of this moment, the six detainees appeared in court on Wednesday for their initial hearing and coercive-measure ruling.
