It has been revealed that the director of the Department of Management and Finance, and the head of the Occupational Health and Safety Unit, at Albufeira City Council have been suspended following an avalanche of complaints alleging workplace harassment and threats.
According to information obtained by journalists, the disciplinary proceedings were initiated after complaints lodged by seven female employees, and had been ongoing for several years.
Albufeira mayor Rui Cristina ordered the launch of disciplinary proceedings against both officials, along with their immediate preventive suspension.
The unnamed head of the Occupational Health and Safety Unit is suspected of repeated workplace harassment of several employees within the unit he leads.The director of the Department of Management and Finance was suspended for failing to act to put an end to the inappropriate behaviour, to protect the affected workers, or to take disciplinary measures to curb the alleged misconduct.
Both suspensions will remain in force for 90 days whilst disciplinary proceedings are ongoing.
