A woman who had been reported missing in the Silves area has been found by rescuers inside a car that had fallen into a stream in the parish of Algoz, in what is the second fatality in the municipality this week due to bad weather.
The first incident was reported yesterday, when a 70-year-old woman in Silves who fell into the Arade River at around 7:00 in the morning was later found deceased, washing up in Estômbar.
Today’s incident involves a vehicle which was located in a stream with the driver still inside. Rescuers were sadly too late, and thus the 83-year-old Dutch national was found deceased.
The woman, who had found herself stuck in the stream and unable to leave her vehicle, had been reported missing earlier in the morning after calling her husband to say that she had been in an accident which forced her off of the side of the road.
According to the public broadcaster RTP, it was only after the water level of the stream subsided that authorities were able to locate and recover both the car and the unidentified Dutch woman.
