Construction and civil engineering work in the EU began to show some improvement, rising by 0.8% in April compared to the month before.
But this followed a fall of -0.3% in March.
The annual picture is more optimistic. There was an 8% rise from April 2013 to this last April.
But April 2013 also marked the second lowest point in the eight years from April 2005.
Portugal’s building and civil engineering industry rallied in April with a 4.5% increase over March. This was the second highest monthly increase throughout all the eurozone nations.
However, the annual comparison with April 2013 shows Portugal suffering a fall of -9%. This was the largest fall in the euro region.
