The Algarve’s Public Security Police (PSP) have recovered three stolen vehicles and seized more than 1,000 litres of fuel intended for the maritime transport of drugs in Tavira and Olhão, during an operation carried out on 9 June.
The first incident stemmed from a report received on 9 June, prompting PSP officers to conduct patrols in Tavira. During those enquiries, police located a vehicle parked in a residential area containing several fuel containers.
Investigators subsequently established that the vehicle was travelling on false registration plates and had been reported stolen. It was immediately seized.
According to the PSP, the evidence gathered suggests the vehicle may have been used to provide logistical support for refuelling boats allegedly involved in the maritime transport of illicit goods.
The discovery led to an alert being issued to all sub-units of the Faro District Command. Later on 9 June, officers in Olhão located a second stolen vehicle, also carrying fuel containers.
The following day, police identified a third vehicle in Tavira displaying similar characteristics. The vehicle had likewise been stolen and contained a number of fuel containers.
In total, the PSP recovered three stolen vehicles and seized more than 1,000 litres of fuel.
