Faro Airport: French driver injured after crashing into stone statues on roundabout

Faro Airport: French driver injured after crashing into stone statues on roundaboutOne person was injured after a car crashed on Sunday at the roundabout leading into Faro's Gago Coutinho Airport.

The vehicle, which bore French registration plates, struck the central reservation on the EN125-10, mounted the roundabout, and subsequently crashed into one of the stone sculptures that form part of the installation at the airport entrance.

The sculptures, which have become a familiar feature welcoming visitors to the Algarve, depict stylised figures inspired by the region's heritage, and serve as a visual landmark on the approach to Faro's Gago Coutinho Airport.

The accident, which happened at around 2pm, has caused tailbacks stretching for several kilometres on the roads leading to the airport, as well as on the route to Faro Beach.
