Belgian air traffic controllers have announced plans to go on strike for two hours, a seemingly more measured approach than their peers in France who are on a six day strike.
Air space in Belgium will be shut down from 18.00 to 20.00 on Wednesday as the controllers protest budget cuts.
They have, however, threatened that there may be further shutdowns over the following 24 hours.
At least 430 British carrier flights were cancelled on Wednesday in France, primarily from Ryanair (260), easyJet (150) and British Airways (17).
Other carriers were operating with delays of up to four hours.
According to Ryanair disruption hit flights going over France as well as those to and from France.
Cities was affected include Barcelona, Toulouse, Lyon, Geneva, Tripoli, Milan Linate, Nice, Hamburg, Zurich, Frankfurt, Brussels, Basel and Marseille.
Thousands of passengers were stranded and the backlog is considerable.
British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair said they would offer a full refund for any passengers whose flight is cancelled.
