Portimão: 19-year-old babysitter arrested for sexual abuse against two children - suspect bought silence with sweets and video gamesThe Judicial Police (PJ) has arrested a 19-year-old babysitter for allegedly committing 20 acts of sexual abuse against two children, aged seven and eight, in Portimão between some time beginning in May, up to 24 June. It is alleged that the suspect gave the children sweets and let them play video games to prevent them from reporting the abuse, which he recorded.

According to the PJ, "the suspect, leveraging the trust established with the parents, began working as a full-time live-in babysitter for the victims, two children aged seven and eight." The abuse took place when "the parents were away; the acts occurred in the children's bedroom, and the sexual assaults were recorded on the suspect's mobile phone."

To win the minors over, the suspect gave them sweets and allowed them to play video games "beyond the time limits set by their parents, thereby buying the victims' silence."

The investigation began yesterday following a report filed by one of the parents; it led to the gathering of evidence that resulted in the suspect's arrest in Portimão, with the assistance of the local GNR.

The arrested individual will appear for an initial judicial interrogation to determine coercive measures. The inquiry is being led by the Portimão Public Prosecutor's Office.
