Father dies in fiery crash after hitting wild boar in Alentejo, as seriously injured son rushed to hospitalA man was killed and another seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed on the EN387 in Faro do Alentejo, in the Beja district, at around 6am this Wednesday morning, 26 August.

The victims were father and son. Their car reportedly struck a wild boar who ran into the roadway, whereupon the vehicle then veered off the road and caught fire on the roadside.

The younger man managed to escape from the vehicle, while his father remained trapped inside and died in the blaze.

The injured man was taken to the emergency department at José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital in Beja, while the victim’s body was taken to the city’s Legal Medicine Office for a post-mortem examination.

The EN387 was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene. Military officers from the GNR’s Road Accident Crime Investigation Unit (NICAV) are investigating the circumstances of the crash, while the vehicle was removed and the road cleared.

A total of 14 emergency personnel were at the scene.
