The body of a 58-year-old Englishman was found floating in the sea off Pintadinho beach in the municipality of Lagoa yesterday morning. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown.
The alarm was raised at 9.19am by a member of the public, prompting the deployment of officers from the Portimão Local Maritime Police Command, as well as emergency medical services (INEM), Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters, and the Polícia Judiciária.
The victim, a 58-year-old British national, was pulled from the water by two lifeguards, who began resuscitation attempts before emergency medical teams arrived.
“Unable to reverse the situation, the formal confirmation of death was carried out by an INEM doctor,” the National Maritime Authority said in a statement.
The man’s body was subsequently taken by firefighters to the western Algarve medico-legal and forensic office, while the Maritime Police’s psychology team is providing support to the victim’s family.
The Portimão Local Maritime Police Command is handling the incident.
