A 43-year-old man suspected of attacking a member of the public with a knife, and threatening others with death, has been arrested in the Algarve town of Lagos, the PSP (Public Security Police) announced on Thursday, 1 October.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 29 September. “Police officers attended the scene and quickly located the suspect, finding him in possession of a kitchen knife,” the PSP said.
Initial inquiries established that, shortly before police arrived, the suspect had allegedly attacked a man with the knife. The victim was subsequently taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment after suffering a cut to one of his arms.
According to the authorities, “it was also established that the detainee had recent records of involvement in other violent incidents involving bladed weapons, both in Lagos and in other towns across the Algarve”.
The man has been remanded in custody. His identity has not been made known by the authorities.
