Faro: Violent attacker, 31, remanded in custody after threatening restaurant staff with a bladePolice authorities have released a statement this week detailing the arrest of a 31-year-old man in Faro on Saturday, 3 October, on suspicion of threatening restaurant workers with a bladed weapon and "violently" resisting officers who stepped in.

The PSP (Public Security Police) was alerted to a man holding people at knifepoint outside a restaurant, a situation officers confirmed as soon as they arrived.

The suspect is said to have approached a member of staff, "demanding food and threatening him, trying to strike him with the weapon". Employees took refuge inside the premises, while others outside fled.

According to the PSP, the man put up "strong resistance" before officers restrained and arrested him.

It was not his first arrest in recent days. He had been detained ten days earlier on the same grounds, and was made subject to a requirement to report to Faro police station twice a week.

Following this latest arrest, he was remanded in custody.
