Waitrose products now available in Faro and Portimão

waitroseTop UK supermarket Waitrose has announced a new export deal with European retailer Auchan to sell groceries in Portugal through selected Jumbo and Pão de Açucar supermarkets.

The retailer said close to 100 grocery and chilled products will be available in six stores in Lisbon and in the Algarve in Faro and Portimão.

Waitrose said its export sales grew by almost 30% in 2013. The export range includes products such as Waitrose Fiery Ginger Beer and Cloudy Lemonade, Waitrose organic strawberry preserve and essential Waitrose mature English cheddar cheese.

Waitrose business to business director David Morton said, “We are excited to be continuing our expansion throughout Europe by bringing Waitrose products to Portugal, an incredibly popular destination with British holiday makers and expats alike.

“Waitrose has a presence on every continent in the world and we continue to look for opportunities to further increase our international offering.”

Branches stocking Waitrose products are Pão de Açucar in Amoreiras Lisbon, Jumbo in Cascais, and for the Algarve, Pão de Açucar in Lagoa, Jumbo in Portimão and Jumbo in Faro.

Pity Waitrose don't open a store themselves instead of allowing the froggies to cream off the profits.

Haven't we got enough French supermarkets in the Algarve, anyway?

I but from waitrose online and get deliveries through direct transport in Porches. It's not too expensive.
Nothing refrigerated or fresh though.

As with all imported goods, no doubt the price tag will be suitable for part-timers and holiday-makers only.
The rest of us, quite honestly, couldn't care less anyway!
