Fewer goods sold in Portugal last month

shoppingcentreRetail sales in Portugal faltered in June compared with May.

The fall of -1.4% was the largest decline of any eurozone country, followed by Malta (-1.1%) and Spain (-0.8%).

Comparing June 2014 with June last year in Portugal, there was virtually no change.

For the eurozone as a whole, however, the news was more positive. Sales in June grew by 0.4%.

For the euro region in June, food and drinks were up by 0.5% and an increase of 0.3% was registered for the non-food sector, such as clothing and electrical goods. Automotive fuel dropped by 0.1%.

Prices this year were 2% higher for food and drink and 3% more for non-food items, such as furniture and computer equipment. Petrol was 0.8% less.
