heroinOfficers manning a GNR control point, part of 'Operation Stop,' struck lucky early yesterday morning as they searched two cars and arrested the occupants in connection with the 3,900 hits of heroin hidden in their vehicles.

The dawn arrests were made at the side of the EN396 betwen Quarteira and Loulé.

The officers stopped the first car and immediately were suspicious due to the driver's shifty behaviour.

The GNR also had stopped the car behind the first and bingo, an impressive stash of heroin was discovered in both vehicles.

The officers from Loulé found "three small packages" containing the heroin, two phones and €187.

One of the arrested men is a 34-year old from Lisbon who is being held at the prison in Olhão.

He is a face well known to the police and has a 'criminal record for drug trafficking, arms trafficking, theft of and tampering with vehicles, among other crimes," according to a statement from the GNR Territorial Command in Faro
