GNR officers were kept busy last weekend as many drivers failed to take heed of the simplest rule of the road and were arrested and fined for being over the drink-drive limit.
The GNR arrested 262 people on Saturday and Sunday, mostly for driving under the influence of alcohol, by pulling people over at random at well marked inspection areas up and down the country.
The GNR’s Monday report stated that a total of 209 drivers had been arrested and charged as legally they were incapable of driving their vehicles due to blood alcohol levels in excess of 1.20 grammes per litre.
A further 18 drivers thought is a sensible way of life to be driving without a driving license.
The GNR picked up five people for drug possession, two for possession of prohibited weapons, three for carrying stolen items and two for being in the country illegally.
Officers nabbed a small amount of cocaine, enough hashish for 356 joints, six firearms, six pistols, ammunition of various calibers and impounded two vehicles.
