Drug arrests at Sudoeste festival in Zambujeira do Mar

breathaliserThe GNR today announced that officers had arrested 21 people variously for for drug possession and drug dealing during its targeted operation at the "Meo Southwest 2014" music festival in Zambujeira do Mar, Beja.

The Territorial Command of the GNR in Beja issued a statement which said that the operation was mounted between 01 and 11 August at the access roads to the music festival, held at Herdade da Casa Branca, with 100 officers on duty each day.

All those arrested were Portuguese and aged between 18 and 32. Police seized enough hashish for 1,350 joints, 109 synthetic drugs, cocaine, €1,335 in cash, and one extendable baton.

During the operation, two complaints were made by revellers who had bought forged tickets.

Under the section on 'road safety,' the GNR reportedly stopped 379 drivers many of whim were breathalised leading to 47 offenses being recorded.

The operation was said to focus on four areas, public safety, criminal investigation, traffic safety and environmental safety.
