Another golf course planned for Silves

golfA planned new golf course in the Silves council area has reached the public consultation phase.

The design of Campo de Golfe da Feitoria Fenícia in Silves is under public consultation until September 16th according to an official posting on the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the Algarve’s website.

The project has been submitted by Feitoria Fenícia - Investimentos Agropecuários e Turísticos, Lda and in addition to an 18-hole golf course, includes the construction of a club house and associated access and parking areas.

According to the dumbed down summary available on the CCDR-Algarve website the area covered by the proposed golf course is 61.90 hectares in, on and around land registered under the Natura 2000 network, National Agricultural Reserve, the National Ecological Network, the Public Water Domain, and the irrigation system for Silves, Lagoa and Portimão.

The public consultation now underway allows people to look at and comment on the Environmental Impact Assessment which in theory will be taken into account before the Environmental Impact Statement is accepted.

The Environmental Impact Assessment can be found on the CCDR/Algarve website (see below), at the Silves council building and the Freguesia of Silves office.

Feitoria Fenícia Lda’s website enlightens us as to its activities, “Studies and projects for the construction of hotel establishments, agri-tourism and sports, as well as construction and operation of same. Construction and operation of hospitality for the same. Purchase and sale of buildings and resale of purchased buildings for this purpose.”

The location is to the south of the EN124 just to the west of Silves, starting just beyond the Parque Ribeirinho.

Another golf course that none of the locals can afford. Including most of the expats.
