The average occupancy of hotels in the Algarve during August reached 92.1%, a rise of 1.2% over August 2013, with the volume of business increasing 3%.
Provisional data released this Friday by the Association of Hotels and Resorts in the Algarve (AHETA), shows that an increase in nights spent by British, Irish and Portuguese visitors carried the overall result to this impressive level.
Dutch and German tourist numbers were down compared to last August but by an insignificant amount, according to AHETA.
The highest increases were seen in Tavira, up 2.8%, Portimão/Praia da Rocha, up 2%, and Monte Gordo/Vila Real de Santo António, up 2.7%.
Hotels in Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António had the highest rate of average occupancy which reached 94.7%.
The stats department at AHETA found also that five and four star tourist villages and tourist apartments in the Algarve saw rises of 2.4% and that three star hotels and apart-hotels saw an occupancy rise of 1.5%.
