The Algarve scores again

albufeirabeachThe Algarve was listed as 2014’s second best value destination out of the top 44 most popular countries in the world.

Top spot was Bali, according to the new Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer compiled by Post Office Travel Money.

The report said that an 18% fall in prices meant that the Algarve pipped Spain’s Costa del Sol to become Europe’s best deal.

Spain was also knocked off its perch for worldwide best value by Bali, and wound up instead in 6th place.

Globally, the list of best value holidays begins with Bali and the Algarve. These destinations are followed by Prague, the Gambia, Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, and then Spain’s Coast del Sol.

The others in the top ten are Marmaris in Turkey, Cape Town in South Africa, Budapest in Hungary and Hoi An in Vietnam.

The Algarve and the Costa del Sol are the only two European destinations in the top ten. The next European spot is Greece which is the 14th best value location.

The survey monitors the costs of eight tourists items in 44 popular countries, including dinner for two, drinks, sunscreen.
