Ryanair plans ahead for expansion

ryanairRyanair is set for the long haul with its order of 200 new Boeing 737 aircraft worth $22bn (£13.6bn).

The new planes provide eight more seats on each flight for a total of 197 as well as fuel savings of 20%.

The additional eight seats are worth €1 million per plane every year to Ryanair.

Chief Executive Michael O’Leary said: "I hope it will hasten a new era of price wars in Europe over the next 10 years."

It will also help Ryanair achieve its goal of attracting 120 million passengers a year within the coming ten years. Last year, 81 million people chose to fly with the airline.

Ryanair also said the new aircraft will be a “game-changer” which will “mark a steep change in improving Ryanair’s efficiency”.

The first of the 737 MAX 200 aircraft will be delivered in 2019. But Ryanair is not waiting quietly until then. It is getting ready to take delivery of the first of 180 Boeing 737-800 models which it ordered last year.
