Annual inflation in the EU countries was an average of 1.3%, considerably higher than Portugal’s rate of 0.3%.
This was a big change from September last year when inflation in Portugal was running at 2.9%.
Portugal has one of the lowest rates in Europe, putting it in sixth place after Bulgaria, Greece, Latvia, Ireland and Denmark.
The United Kingdom was suffering with the highest rate in all of Europe, 2.7%. High inflation rates have been the norm for the entire twelve-month period from September 2012 until now.
Over the region, the price of tobacco and of electricity rose while downward pressure came from the lower cost of fuel for transport, telecommunications and medical services.
