Scotland Yard officers returned to Portugal this morning and will be continuing their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann who disappeared in 2007 when on holiday in Praia da Luz.
The British police officers met members of the Polícia Judiciária in Faro this morning a full three months after their last visit and are keen to continue their interview schedule of key suspects and witnesses.
The British police sent a formal letter to Portugal in August once again asking permission to work on Portuguese soil.
In early June a forensic team, Metropolitan Police officers from Operation Grange, Polícia Judiciária and GNR officers carried out exhaustive searches with dogs on a hillside area of scrubland in the area in and around Praia da Luz and Aldeia da Luz.
Altogether, police combed an area of about six hectares looking down pipes, in holes and in old buildings with the help of sniffer dogs and geo-radar equipment but if they found anything, officers have yet to share the information.
The return of the British team is shortly after the appointment of Ines Sequeira as prosecutor in charge of the case who is “utterly determined” to solve the Madeleine mystery.
The British are said to be pleased at Sequeira’s appointment and hope that their continuing investigation will be free of hold ups and disagreements.
