Petrol price relief

petrolpump4744According to data from the Directorate General for Energy and Geology, obtained from 2,677 service stations, the average price of diesel last Thursday was €1.278 per litre, while the average price of petrol was €1.523 per litre.

This is a drop of more than six cents, the highest fall since the liberalisation of the fuel market in January 2004.

The price of petrol should drop another 3 cents next week to below the psychological €1.50 barrier in most petrol stations nationally as the crude oil price stabilises as this low level.

Since a mid-June spike, the dollar price of crude oil has fallen 23%, which in Europe has resulted in a price decrease of 17%.

At the pumps in Portugal, between July 1 and October 16, fuel prices fell by an average of 5%, corresponding to 7 cents on diesel and 8 cents on petrol, according to prices published by the Directorate General for Energy and Geology.
