Shopkeepers endured another month of misery in September as fewer sales were made.
Retail sales in Portugal were down by 2.5% when compared to August. This was the second largest decrease in the eurozone after falling sales experienced also in Germany.
On a slightly more positive note, however, retail sales were up by 1.9% when compared to September 2013.
Most of the eurozone’s retail sales were down in September over August with the average being 1.6%. This was predominately due to a 2.2% fall in the sale of goods such as clothing and computer items.
Food sales were virtually the same as in August.
There was an increase of nearly 1% in the sale of petrol for vehicles.
