Police are looking into the discovery of a female contract worker at the Cruz de Parteira Continente supermarket in Portimão found crushed to death inside used package-compacting machine behind the store.
The member of the supermarket’s Vadeca contract cleaning team had been reported missing and suspicions were raised when a member of staff found a pair of woman’s shoes near the powerful crusher.
The authorities were called and the local Bombeiros team had to dismantle the machine in its search for the woman. The horrified firemen then discovered her crushed body which was removed for post mortem.
The 37-year old worker is understood to be a widow and mother of two youngsters who are being taken care of by shocked relatives.
The dead woman later was named as Nazaré Branquinho and a full enquiry has been started to see how she managed to die in such horrific and unusual circumstances.
