The Júpiter Hotel, one of Praia da Rocha’s main tourist offerings, closed its doors to tourists on November 11th 2014.
The rather more encouraging news is that the hotel on the Avenida da Republica is undergoing a €2 million refit. The management plans that the refurbished hotel will be open for business by the end of March, 2015.
The hotel is being renamed as well, to the Júpiter Algarve Hotel, mainly because the ownership has changed and the hotel now comes under a new investment company, Júpiter Indústria Hoteleira from Lisbon which already runs the Júpiter Lisboa Hotel.
The remodeling of the Algarve hotel will "position the hotel at a superior level, with an emphasis on the comfort of the rooms," states the company.
The hotel is being themed too with the obvious choice of ‘the sea’ taking centre stage in public areas and the rooms.
Drivers will be pleased too as despite summertime parking being at a premium in Praia da Rocha the hotel is expanding its private covered parking areas, as well as improving the public areas around the hotel.
This sort of hotel refurbishement to improve the Algarve's tourist offering may well be more cost-effective for business owners than building new hotels on green field sites, despite the rash or new developments that continue to be built on the Algarve's formerly unspoilt countryside.
