Yogurt laced with alcohol has become a runaway success in Britain.
Strong sales of the UK’s first alcoholic yogurt catapulted the makers, The Collective, into the fastest-growing yogurt company in Britain.
The limited edition Raspberry & Amaretto variety was the number one favourite of the range, selling out across UK supermarkets, including Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
As a result of consumer interest, The Collective has added brandy to its Christmas Pudding yogurt and will experiment with different kinds of alcohol next year.
Shoppers also snapped up the company’s other unusual yogurts, such as beetroot & blackberry, and spiced pumpkin. It said it took a risk with pumpkin but was encouraged by the popularity of Starbucks’ pumpkin spiced latte.
Early next year, a new coffee flavour will hit the shelves along with a number of alcoholic yogurts.
As there is less than 1% alcohol in each, they can be sold to people of all ages.
The Collective was launched in 2011 by two former directors from the British quality dessert brand Gü and already has a £10m turnover from its yogurts.
