A 35-year old man was found in a pool of his own blood in the early hours of Saturday morning, in an area between the municipal sports hall and the Francisco Cabrita school in Albufeira.
The Brazilian remained in a serious state on Sunday.
The man was discovered unconscious, lying in the road and firefighters were called to the scene at about 6.00 am.
It is known that Diego Leite is an ‘airsoft’ instructor, a game similar to paintball but using replica weapons which shooting non-lethal projectiles, (see image).
It is not yet known if the attack was related to his occupation but he had been beaten up so badly that it was only when being attended to in hospital that the two bullet wounds were discovered - in his back and stomach.
On Friday evening Leite had dinner with some of his airsoft clients but nobody yet has come forward to assist police in filling in the critical missing hours.
