Last year was the hottest year ever experienced in the UK.
This was in accord with both the records which began in 1910 and also the Central England Temperature series which started in 1659 and is the longest running record of its kind.
The mean temperature for the year was 9.9C which is 0.2 degrees higher than the previous record which was in 2006.
Each month was consistently warm although there were no record temperatures in any one month, according to the Met Office.
This means that eight of the ten warmest years in Britain have occurred since 2002.
While it was warm, it was also wet. 2014 was the fourth wettest year.
Five of the country's six wettest years have been since 2000, according to the data.
In December, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said that 2014 was likely to be the hottest ever across the world, underscoring the underlying global warming trend.
