Lovers of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs have flocked to social media to complain about the heartless shift away from the use of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk for the shell.
The US owner, Mondelez (the confectionary wing of Kraft Foods), has replaced the milk chocolate with an unspecified cocoa mix chocolate, thereby driving fans to bitter sadness.
Moreover, the multi-packs have been reduced from six to five, often selling with no reduction in price.
Mondelez says the formula is no longer Dairy Milk, but similar. The spokesperson pointed out that “we have never played on the fact that Dairy Milk chocolate was used”.
The price of cocoa is going up and some manufacturers are looking for ways to cope.
Cadbury lovers had already had to suffer the news announced in October that the company would cease making chocolate coins a particular favourite at Christmas time.
With their loss and now with the change in Creme Eggs, the easy access through chocolate to childhood memories has seen an abrupt end.
