Facebook revenue hits $12 billion

facebookFacebook is celebrating after its revenues rose above $12 billion for the first time.

The profits were greater than had been predicted by analysts and resulted from a higher number of people logging on to it as well as an increase in advertising revenue.

The number of people using Facebook at least once a month reached 1.39 billion making reports of the social network’s death seem premature. Firing up Facebook once a day were 890 million people, a jump of 18%.

At the same time last year, there were 1.23 billion logging on at least once a month.

Now 3 billion video views take place every day, up from 1 billion just last September, according to the network’s chief operating officer. The company has been working to improve its video facilities in order to gain more users and advertisers.

Facebook said that the number of users on its Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp sites reached 300m, 500m, and 700m respectively.

The US firm said full-year revenues reached $12.47bn with net profits hitting $701 million in the final quarter of the year.
