ID chips ready for Swedish employees

fibreopticAnother new social experiment is to begin in Sweden.

A high tech office block there has decided to micro-chip its employees and do away with swipe cards, pin codes and passwords in order to gain access to the building.

The 400 people working at Epicenter, a new office building, need only hold their hand to the front door in order to get in once they have been fitted with a tiny RFID (radio-frequency identification) chip.

The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and it is injected under the skin.

In future, the chip will also enable people to pay for meals and snacks in the building’s cafe by a wave of the hand.

The scheme is voluntary, and not all the staff are compliant. One woman said she saw little point in being chipped just to get through a door. More traditional arrangements will have to be maintained for dissenters.
