Amazon drone delivery plans in tatters

amazondroneAmazon’s plans for home delivery by drone have been scuppered in the US by the Federal Aviation Authority.

New regulations from the FAA will make it impossible for any company to harness drone power as delivery vehicles.

The proposed rules impose strict rules on the commercial use of drones, including making an operator responsible for seeing their aircraft at all times and barring drones from flying over populated areas.

In the last year several incidents of drones nearly colliding with passenger flights near airports have made people uneasy.

Amazon has been the company in the lead over pioneering drone delivery, but others, such as Google and Domino’s Pizza, also have been exploring potential business uses.

Amazon announced plans for its Prime Air drone delivery service. The retail giant said it would be able to deliver packages within 30 minutes of an order being placed. Now one of its vice presidents has admitted that the new rules will prevent Prime Air operating in the US.

It is believed that the company has already invested millions in developing the project.

it might be believed by some that Amazon invested millions...
It was never going to actually work; but it made for great publicity.
