GNR patrols this week have made arrests in the Lagos and Albufeira districts for drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons.
Officers from Portimão GNR yesterday arrested two Portuguese citizens, aged 20 and 34, and have charged them with drug dealing and gun possession.
During an anti-burglary patrol in the Mexilhoeira Grande area, the GNR patrol spotted a vehicle and a caravan in secluded grounds in Várzea de Arão, Mexilhoeira Grande - both looked suspicious.
The GNR approach the vehicle and caravan to check the identification of the two occupants and on searching the caravan found a shotgun, two 7.65 mm caliber guns, cartridges and ammunition.
In addition to the weapons, the military officers also seized hashish sufficient for 270 spliffs which was packed in two plastic boxes.
The GNR from Albufeira also arrested a Portuguese citizen yesterday for drug trafficking.
A foot patrol came across a man who was well known to the authorities and seemed nervous. They found enough hashish on him for 193 joints.
The detainees were taken to Department of Investigation and Penal Action prosecutors in Portimão and Albufeira, for processing.
