The badly decomposed body of a French tourist has been discovered, wrapped in a sleeping bag in his motorhome that was parked in Vila Real de Santo António in the far eastern Algarve.
Police were called on Monday evening as the yelps of a dog, also inside the motorhome, had alerted a passer-by.
The Bombeiros also were called and forced open the door. .
The motorhome was parked in Rua Montemor-o-Novo and when the door was opened, a body wrapped in a sleeping bag was found inside in a state of advanced decomposition.
The police called detectives who collected potential evidence from inside the vehicle and from the corpse.
It has not yet been possible to establish the cause of death but a forensic autopsy is being carried out. It is known that the man was 70-years-old and had been travelling around Europe for some time.
