Netflix film streaming service coming to Portugal

The film streaming service netflixNetflix will be available in Spain in October this year and the company plans to be in Portugal "sometime in 2016" with later news reports suggesting that an October 2015 launch is on the cards.

In October, viewers in Spain will be able to access the streaming service for TV series and films for around €8 a month, according to the founder and president of the company, Reed Hastings, in an interview printed in the Spanish daily El Mundo.

The Netflix film catalogue available in Spain will be smaller than in the company’s home territory in the USA, and indeed lower than in the UK but the proven technology and reasonable cost should ensure a good uptake as the number of titles expands.

Once Netflix is launched in Spain and any glitches ironed out, the company’s intention is to serve the smaller Portuguese market as soon as possible thereafter.

The expansion into Portugal was part of the US company's original strategy way back in 1997.

Portugal is near the end of the list of countries to receive the film streaming service as the global expansion plan is due to end in 2016.

My friends in the US love netflix; but I'm told that here in Europe, the offering is very poor in comparison.
I'd pay for the US version. Let's see how many will pay for a bunch of old re-runs.
Wait; that sounds like MEO...

It's only 5 Euros in Australia, but i think there is far
too much content available, will this cause another downturn for cinemas i wonder.
