Once again Aldi has captured the number one position, this time for its mince pies.
The consumer group Which? ranked Aldi’s mince pies as the best on the high street, outstripping Harrods and Fortnum & Mason.
The blind tasting by a panel of four experts lead them to conclude that Aldi’s pies were “full of flavour” with a “lush, spicy and juicy” filling.
The rival discount group, Lidl, came in immediately behind to snap up second place.
The ‘Specially Selected’ range from Aldi retails in the UK at £1.69 for six while at Lidl the ‘Snowy Lodge’ brand brings six pies for £1.79.
Which? rated 12 brands of mince pie. Marks & Spencer shared joint second with Lidl.
Fortnum & Mason, on the other hand, came in last, despite its £12.95 price tag for six. Which? said the panel the pastry was "flat-tasting, soft and crumbly".
The Christmas taste tests also ranked Co-op's Prosecco as the best-sparkling wine on the market, while Waitrose's Blanc de Noirs Brut champagne topped Lanson Champagne Black Label, Moet & Chandon Imperial Brut and Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut.
Aldi’s Connoisseur Christmas Pudding had already been voted best in the annual trial of festive foods organised by Good Housekeeping magazine.
Aldi is the fastest growing supermarket in the UK.
