Legacy contact - the Facebook service that allows people to run accounts of the dead - has finally arrived in Portugal after being available elsewhere since February.
Briefly, it involves what Americans call “memorialization”.
Living Facebookers can appoint an “online executor” of their profile to decide what happens to it after they die.
The legacy contact will be able to write a memorial post, update photos and approve “friend requests”.
For anyone who wants to carry on making friends into the afterlife, this would seem to be the answer.
Facebook users can nominate a legacy contact by going into their settings, choosing 'security' and then 'legacy contact' at the bottom of the page.
Alternatively, people can instruct Facebook to permanently delete their account after their death.
