North Korea sets its own time

clockNorth Korea has said it will change time by moving its clocks back by 30 minutes to create Pyongyang Standard Time.

The move is to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese rule, according to the KCNA news agency, and will take effect on 15 August.

Currently the country shares the same time zone as Japan and South Korea but the move will see it return to that which was used in the Korean peninsula before the Japanese invaded.

"The wicked Japanese imperialists committed such unpardonable crimes as depriving Korea of even its standard time while mercilessly trampling down its land with 5,000 year-long history and culture and pursuing the unheard-of policy of obliterating the Korean nation," KCNA said.

Japan ruled the Korean peninsula from 1910 to 1945.
